Alfa Insurance refuses to reimburse for lightning damages
on August 11, 2011 at 8:26 pmMy wife and I have been customers of Alfa Insurance for 18 years. We have homeowners insurance as well as Life Insurance with Alfa.
We recently had lightning strike our home on July 10, 2011. In the strike we had damage that included and destroyed 3 televisions, 1 dvd player, 2 garage door openers, 1 telephone with digital answering system, 1 motion sensor detector light, 1 Dell all-in-one fax/printer, 1Dell Desktop computer, and my ADT Alarm System. We were blessed that no other damage was done as far as fire related. We also had 3 big screen televisions that were NOT damaged. Also my kids 3 laptop computers, and 1 other desktop computer were NOT damaged.
When we contacted our adjuster:Tate Parker from the Albany Ga. office, the moment he heard our voices he was very rude and unproffessional right from our very first conversation. He told us that the lightning affidavits were completed correctly, but we needed to complete a Personal Property Schedule to be reimbursed for our items. When we asked Mr. Parker if he would fax us this paper, he quickly replied “No, i’ve already put them in the mail.” So we asked him if he by chance had another paper that he could fax us so we could speed up the process, because a week had already passed. Mr. Parker replied “If i get around to it, I have other customers!” We told Mr. Parker that we were also paying customers that deserved attention, his replies were”uumm hmmm, I told you I already put them in the mail.” We told Mr. Parker that we did not want to report him to the Corporate Office, but we would, because his attitude was just plain nasty! He said, “Go right ahead!”
We NEVER recieved those papers in the mail. From there we contacted his supervisor, who had to send us all the paper work and information we needed to proceed on with our claim. We had to speak to his supervisor to see how our claim was progressing, because Mr. Parker would not give us any information. Although the supervisor helped, he did not try to resolve the situation with Mr. Parker in any way.
At this point we knew we would not get reimbursed for our damaged property and we did not. The total reciept for all the damages and the amount to replace our items after the $500 deductable was roughly $2600. Mr. Tate Parker only gave us roughly $1900. Not even enough to cover the replacement of everything damaged. We had to choose wich items we would replace and come out of pocket to replace the rest.
After 18 years of paying your hard earned money to a company, these are the results. We did not want to get over on anyone, all we wanted was to be able to replace our items that we had worked so hard to purchase in the first place. We even had reciepts from purchases, but the amount we recieved was only half the amount we spent to purchase.
We WILL NOT be renewing our insurance with Alfa! Alfa DOES NOT reimburse you for your items. Alfa, you have lost a loyal customer of 18 years, because of your very unprofessional, rude and prejudice employee Tate Parker!
