My soon to be 81 year old mother and I,  disabled, live together in a home we own which is insured by Cotton States. This is what happened to us:

Timeline of Events—

Collapse of ceiling during storm, Friday, 6/17/2011

Finch Fire/Water, Saturday, 6/18/2011–pulled down rest of ceiling, removed debris and gave verbal assessment of damage and course of repairs

Meeting set for Monday, 6/20/2011 with Cotton States’ supervising adjuster, Richard Schone, and Danny Finch of Finch Fire/Water; neither Schone or Finch contacted or met with me. They conversed with each other though.

Finch and Schone,Tuesday, 6/21/2011, inspect damaged property, omit any discussion of damages; Schone says will contact me in a few days.

Schone calls, Thursday, 6/23/2011, and suggests ridiculous sum at inappropriate juncture

Check from Schone, 6/26/2011, dated, along with accompanying documents, 6/23/2011, attempting to ‘close out’ claim before I had officially filed one and before inspection done for mold damage, or independent contractors had assessed damage due to collapse and given estimates to home owner

I have reported the actions of Cotton States’ supervising adjuster to the Florida Insurance Commissioner and engaged legal representation.
